Testing the New Gymbum UK Quick-Dry T-Shirt on Ben Lomond: Up the Tourist Path and Down the Ptarmigan Route

As an avid hiker, I'm always on the lookout for high-performance gear that can keep up with my adventures. Recently, I had the chance to test out the new quick-dry T-shirt from Gymbum UK on a hike up Ben Lomond. This iconic Scottish Munro, with its breathtaking views and challenging terrain, provided the perfect setting to put the T-shirt through its paces. I decided to take the Tourist Path up and the Ptarmigan Route down, experiencing both the popular and the more rugged trails.

Setting Off: Up the Tourist Path

Starting from the Rowardennan car park, I joined the well-trodden Tourist Path. The weather was sunny which unusual for Scotland –  The heat made it an excellent test for the quick-dry T-shirt. From the moment I set off, I noticed how comfortable and lightweight the T-shirt felt. It had a nice loose fit, allowing for easy movement without any restriction.

Through the Woodland

The initial stretch of the hike took me through a beautiful woodland area. Despite the humidity, the T-shirt managed to keep me cool and dry. The fabric's moisture-wicking properties were impressive, as I didn't feel any of the usual clamminess that can come with other shirts. Even when the incline increased and my pace quickened, the T-shirt's breathability remained top-notch.

I met a wee friend along the way.

Open Hillside and Summit Ridge

As I emerged from the forest onto the open hillside, the path steepened. The wind picked up, but the T-shirt provided just the right amount of coverage to keep me warm without overheating. The quick-dry fabric lived up to its name, drying rapidly after sweat-inducing exertion. By the time I reached the summit ridge, the sun was shining, and I felt comfortable and dry, ready to enjoy the stunning panoramic views from the top.

Descending via the Ptarmigan Route

After soaking in the scenery and snapping some photos at the summit, I began my descent via the Ptarmigan Route. This path is less frequented and more rugged, offering a different challenge compared to the Tourist Path.

Steep and Rocky Sections

The Ptarmigan Route's steep and rocky sections were a true test of the T-shirt's durability and performance. I was impressed by how well it withstood the more demanding terrain. The loose fit allowed for unrestricted movement as I navigated the narrow, rocky paths, and the fabric's strength meant it didn't snag or tear despite brushing against rough surfaces.

Final Stretch

As I descended further, the route offered magnificent views and a sense of tranquility. The T-shirt continued to perform admirably, keeping me dry and comfortable. Even after hours of hiking, it retained its shape and comfort, showing no signs of wear.

Final Thoughts

The new quick-dry T-shirt from Gymbum UK proved to be an excellent companion for my Ben Lomond adventure. Its loose fit, combined with exceptional moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties, kept me comfortable throughout the hike, whether I was ascending via the popular Tourist Path or tackling the rugged Ptarmigan Route.

For anyone looking to upgrade their hiking gear, I highly recommend checking out this T-shirt at Gymbum UK.
