Murray's Wimbledon Career Concludes as Raducanu Withdraws from Mixed Doubles

Andy Murray's Wimbledon career has come to a close after Emma Raducanu pulled out of their scheduled mixed doubles match. The 37-year-old former world number one was set to team up with his fellow Briton on Saturday evening at the All England Club.

Raducanu, 21, cited "some stiffness" in her right wrist as the reason for her withdrawal. Despite this setback, she had an impressive run in the women's singles, advancing to the fourth round with a commanding two-set victory over Greek ninth seed Maria Sakkari on Friday.

In her statement, Raducanu expressed her regret: "I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles. I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I've got to take care."

Murray, a two-time singles champion at Wimbledon, expressed his own disappointment over the turn of events. As per tournament rules, he was unable to find a replacement partner since the draw had already been finalized. Consequently, Murray and Raducanu, who were slated to face China's Zhang Shuai and El Salvador's Marcelo Arevalo, were replaced by an alternate pairing.

This marks the end of Murray's appearances at Wimbledon, as he previously exited the men's doubles on Thursday after losing alongside his older brother Jamie. Following the match, a heartfelt video montage of Murray's illustrious career was displayed on the Centre Court big screen, moving the former world number one to tears as thousands of fans showed their appreciation.

Murray had already withdrawn from the singles competition on Tuesday as he continues to recover from a back operation on June 22. The three-time major champion has announced his plans to retire later this year, with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games expected to be his final event.
